After nearly 30 yrs of working as an Arts Educator in South Australian Public Schools and overseas, I have been able to pursue a lifelong dream to work as an Artist. It doesn’t really feel like a job yet as I am so inspired by the energy of community and creativity.
I run a small business from my beautiful backyard studio in Forestville, Adelaide (near the showgrounds) but love taking the craft of creativity to the bush where I grew up. I bring multidisciplinary Visual Art Workshops in Printmaking (Lino, Cyanotype & stamp making) and Pottery (Handbuilding, Coil Pots and Slab forms), Bookbinding, Leathercraft & Sumi-E Black ink Painting. I love experimenting particularly for its capacity to bring out the creativity and spontaneity in us all - an exhilarating process.
I exhibit twice a year with an Artist Collective called ‘Duck n Weave’ with works that have explored new mediums such as resin and abstract oil painting but I consider myself a print-maker. The Duck n Weave Artist Collective also facilitate a year long mentorship program for Artists called ‘Creative Exchange’.
I consider myself an Artisan like my Grandmother and Father and for the last 3 yrs I have toured South Australian schools for Australia’s largest multi-platform arts festival ‘Adelaide Fringe’ initiated after a two month International Group Residency in Tetouan in Morocco’s North in 2017. Along with Artisan’s & Musicians from Morocco we conducted workshops in Islamic art, sacred geometry, leather embossing and Sufi music for over 1500 students ranging from 5 to 18 yrs old.
An example of my work would be ‘Book of Prints’ which is 30 pages of printed and embossed paper in bound, embossed and crafted leather. It celebrates my love of Morocco and Printmaking. My most recent works for a Prostate Cancer Fundraiser were large (78 x 60 cm) abstract inks on paper within a Cyanotype print. I am currently working on a large relief print of a coastal plant bouquet for the Port Lincoln Art Prize.
