For the past 15 years I have been passionately supporting children and young people in a range of settings, primarily at the Port Lincoln Junior Primary School as an SSO. I have completed a Certificate III in Education; Language and Literacy with TAFE in 2007, undertaken various reading workshops for professional development, and continued to acquire more knowledge about how we learn and how to support children and families through various professional developmental programs. I am currently studying online with UNI SA, Psychological Science & Sociology.
My love for the Science of Reading began when I undertook the MiniLit literacy intervention program and worked one on one and with small groups to improve their reading abilities. More recently I undertook the Teaching Little Learners Love Literacy program; another course which uses the Science of Reading research and evidence, and I have implemented many of their decodable readers and resources into my tutoring programs. Reading unlocks the keys to the world for our children and young people and I feel privileged to be on the journey with them.
In 2021 I completed the Circle of Security parent course, which enables parents to understand and respond to their child's emotional needs. I have two wonderful children who are primary school age. This valuable understanding of relationships is something I highly value and endeavour to transfer to all relationships.
Another passion of mine is teaching children and young people about Social & Emotional Literacy (S.E.L) and helping them improve their S.E.L skills through the amazing program What’s the Buzz? This is a unique experience for children to build friendships, enrich their social skills and build confidence.
I especially enjoy seeing personal growth and confidence increase when support is given in building reading literacy skills and social, emotional literacy skills.
